Thanks to extra-curriculum tutoring on national license examinations by the department of Health and Nutrition at Asia University, Wen Qi Chew was able to pass the exam and becoming a certified Food Technician.

As the latest release of 2016 exam result from Examination Yuan, Wen Qi Chew who is an international student from Malaysia attending the 5th year BS/MS combined program at department of Health and Nutrition, Asia University, has become a certified Food Technician.  What is unusual is that Wen Qi Chew did not attend off campus tutoring services but rely solely on the tutoring service provided by the University.

According to Dr. Hsieh, the chairperson of department of Health and Nutrition, Wen Qi Chew came to Asia University with her eye set on passing the national exam to become a certified Food Technician.  She went through the tutoring courses offered by department faculties, Han, Huang, Tsai and Hsieh within 4 months while she is attending her regular classes.  Honed by practicing on previous exam questions, she passed the exam in her first attempt and became the latest student at the department to become a certified Food Technician.

Wen Qi’s advice for other students who would like to take the exam is that the food technician exam takes the average score into account, so it would be wise to start with courses that you are good at.  Understanding the connections between different courses and the ability to put them together is vital to a successful exam.  For example, food chemistry is related to food process, food safety and hygiene is related to food microbiology.  Because the exam is based on assay questions, well organized answer is a must.  It would be a good idea to draw a simple graph which will help the exam grader to understand what you are trying to say, said Wen Qi Chew.  It would be helpful if you can form a study group and exchange your understanding of test subjects.  This will eliminate the misunderstanding and synergize the team effort.
